# Pixel Art Block

> Learn how to use Pixel Art blocks to create interactive grid-based drawing activities.

The **Pixel Art** block provides an interactive pixel grid canvas where learners can create drawings by filling in squares. Use it for creative art activities, coordinate practice, or pattern-based learning.

This is an interactive drawing block. learners can create their own pixel art using a customizable color palette.

<Info>
  Pixel Art blocks can optionally display coordinates, making them useful for teaching coordinate systems alongside creative activities.
</Info>

## When to use Pixel Art blocks

Pixel Art blocks work well for:

* Creative drawing and art activities
* Teaching coordinate systems (with coordinates enabled)
* Pattern recognition and recreation
* Following instructions to create specific designs
* Reward activities and creative breaks

## Settings

### Canvas settings

<ParamField path="Drawing height" default="10" type="slider">
  The number of rows in the pixel grid (2–20).
</ParamField>

<ParamField path="Drawing width" default="10" type="slider">
  The number of columns in the pixel grid (2–20).
</ParamField>

<ParamField path="Show coordinates" default="false" type="switch">
  When enabled, displays row and column coordinates around the grid. Useful for coordinate geometry activities.
</ParamField>

### Color palette

The block includes a customizable color palette that learners use for drawing. The default palette includes:

* Red, Pink, Purple, Blue
* Green, Yellow, Orange, Brown, Black

You can customize the available colors in the block settings.

### Stimulus drawing

You can pre-draw a design that appears when learners start. This is useful for:

* Providing a template to complete
* Showing a reference image to copy
* Creating partially completed designs

## Tips for teachers and parents

**Best practices:**

* Start with smaller grids (8×8 or 10×10) for younger learners
* Enable **Show coordinates** for math-focused activities
* Use the stimulus drawing to create "complete the picture" activities
* Provide color-by-coordinate instructions for structured activities
* Allow free drawing time as a reward or creative break
* Limit the color palette for simpler designs
