# Numbered List Block

> Learn how to use Numbered List blocks to create ordered lists in your resources.

The **Numbered List** block creates ordered lists with sequential numbers. Use it when the order or sequence of items matters.

Each item in the list is automatically numbered in sequence.

## When to use Numbered Lists

Numbered lists work well for:

* Step-by-step instructions and procedures
* Ranked or prioritized items
* Sequences where order matters
* Recipes, tutorials, and how-to guides

## Creating a Numbered List

To create a numbered list:

1. Type `/` to open the slash menu and select **Numbered List**
2. Type your first list item and press **Enter** to add more items
3. Press **Enter** twice on an empty item to exit the list

You can also:

* Press **Tab** to indent and create nested lists (sub-steps)
* Press **Shift + Tab** to outdent items
* Numbers automatically update when you reorder items

## Tips for teachers and parents

**Best practices:**

* Use numbered lists when sequence or order is important
* Keep steps clear and actionable; one action per step
* Start each step with a verb for instructions (e.g., "Click", "Type", "Select")
* Use numbered lists for procedures; use bulleted lists for unordered items
* Consider breaking very long procedures into sections with headings
