# Assignments

> Learn how assignments work in Edzo and how they help structure learning using resources and learning activities.

In Edzo, an **assignment** is how you give learners something specific to work on.

Assignments connect **resources (learning activities)** to **learners** within a learning space, providing structure while keeping learning flexible.

<info>
  Assignments do not change the resource itself. They define *who* is working on it, *when*, and *in which learning space*.

## Creating an assignment

You create an assignment by choosing a resource and assigning it to learners.

### Step-by-step process

1. **Choose your resource**: Select from your created resources, remixed content, or Edzo's library
2. **Select learners**: Choose individual learners, groups, or your entire class
3. **Set assignment details**:
   * Add instructions or context for learners
   * Set due dates (optional)
   * Choose if learners can retry or continue after completion
   * Set visibility preferences (immediate or scheduled)

### Assignment options

**Due dates and scheduling**

* Set specific due dates or leave open-ended
* Schedule assignments to become available at a future time
* Create recurring assignments for regular practice

**Differentiation settings**

* Assign different versions of the same activity to different learners
* Set individual time limits or attempt restrictions
* Provide personalized instructions for specific learners

**Feedback preferences**

* Choose when learners see results (immediate, after completion, or after due date)
* Enable or disable hint systems for challenging questions
* Set up automatic feedback messages

Assignments can be created quickly and adjusted at any time.

## Assigning to learners and groups

Assignments are always scoped to a **learning space**.

You can assign learning to:

* A single learner
* A selected group of learners
* Everyone in the learning space

This makes it easy to differentiate learning while keeping everything organized.

<note>
  The same resource can be assigned multiple times. to different learners, groups, or even across different learning spaces.
</note>

## What learners see

When a learner receives an assignment, they see:

* The assigned learning activity
* Any instructions or expectations
* Their own progress and attempts

Learners focus on completing the activity, not managing assignments or settings.

## Tracking assignment progress

As learners work on assigned activities, Edzo tracks progress automatically.

### Assignment dashboard overview

From your assignments dashboard, you can see:

* **Status overview**: How many learners have started, completed, or not yet begun
* **Progress details**: Individual learner progress with time stamps
* **Engagement metrics**: Time spent, number of attempts, areas of difficulty
* **Completion trends**: Which parts of assignments are challenging for multiple learners

### Individual learner insights

For each learner, you can view:

* **Submission details**: When they started, how long they worked, completion status
* **Answer analysis**: Which questions they found challenging and where they succeeded
* **Attempt history**: Multiple attempts and improvement over time
* **Help requests**: If learners used hints or struggled with specific concepts

### Real-time monitoring

* **Live progress updates**: See when learners are actively working on assignments
* **Immediate notifications**: Get alerts when assignments are submitted
* **Engagement flags**: Identify learners who may need additional support
* **Completion alerts**: Know when learners finish assignments

This comprehensive tracking helps teachers and parents provide targeted support without relying solely on final grades or test scores.

## Assignment management

Assignments are flexible and can be updated as needed to support effective teaching and learning.

### Modifying active assignments

**Extend due dates**: Adjust deadlines for individual learners or entire classes
**Update instructions**: Add clarification or additional context without disrupting work in progress
**Change settings**: Modify attempt limits, hint availability, or feedback timing

### Reassigning and duplicating

**Reassign to additional learners**: Add new students to existing assignments
**Duplicate assignments**: Copy successful assignments for use with different groups
**Create variations**: Make modified versions for differentiated instruction

### Managing completed assignments

**Review and archive**: Move completed assignments to archives while preserving progress data
**Generate reports**: Export assignment results for gradebooks or parent communication
**Create follow-up assignments**: Build on completed work with extension activities

### Bulk assignment operations

**Mass assignment**: Assign the same resource to multiple classes or learning spaces simultaneously
**Batch modifications**: Update due dates or settings across multiple assignments
**Group management**: Organize assignments by subject, unit, or time period

This flexible management system supports iterative teaching and responsive learning while maintaining clear records of learner progress.

## Assignments across learning spaces

Assignments live inside a single learning space, but learners may receive assignments in multiple spaces.

For example:

* A learner may have assignments at school and at home
* Each space keeps its own assignments and expectations
* Progress can be understood within a space and across spaces

This keeps learning contexts clear and separate.

## In summary

Assignments in Edzo provide structure without limiting flexibility.

You can assign ready-made, remixed, or self-created resources to learners, track progress over time, and adapt learning as needs change. all within the context of a learning space.
